What is TUSI?

TUSI is an organization devoted to providing children and youth of any major city with unique access to its city's history, culture, environment, people, and business'.   Through this access we strongly feel that they will obtain a never before held knowledge that will empower them to make the most of life of their life.

How did you come up with the unique name of "UrbanSoph"?

Mitch cleverly came up with the name as a result of finding the right mix of words that best represented the general idea behind this non-profit.

How did you come up with your cool logo?

The FLEX logo (sneaker sole) was conceived by the founders of TUSI to best represent something that urban children and youth would recognize and appreciate.

Who actually made your awesome logo?

Our FLEX logo (sneaker sole) was designed pro-bono by the very talented and ultra inspired Kristen Bell (http://www.kris10bell.com).

Why do you call your logo the “FLEX” logo?

Upon conceiving of our logo we clearly understood how it represented our means of traveling by foot or Foot Leather EXpress.

Who designed your hip and cool website?

TUSI's website was designed pro-bono by the hip and cool people of TUSI.

Why are you targeting only cities with a population of 300,000 and over?

Cities with a population with 300,000 and over can best sustain two Initiatives a week for eight weeks, without being a distraction to the fabric of the city.

Will you ever target cities with a population under 300,000?

We have every intention to bring TUSI to any city that has the historical and cultural significance, as well as the infrastructure for a successful Initiative to be established.

Will you ever have TUSI in another country?

Yes!  Our aim is twofold.  First, we will provide TUSI Pioneers (who have successfully completed their handbook) with the opportunity to engage in TUSI overseas, during the summer before college.  Secondly, we reserve the right to start a for-profit travel company that will take people on Initiatives in a designated city.

How can I become Urbansophed?

Anyone can become urbansophed.  Simply take the time to get to "know" a city.  Think outside of the box, get out of the guidebook, and get to know a city like the back of your hand.

Can I use the term Urbansophed?

Of course!  We hope that everyone will want to become ubansophed and thus, for example, be proud to triumphantly announce to their friends and family:

  1. "I went to the Big Easy and I am now urbansophed!"

  2. "My friends and I are urbansophs of D.C.!"

  3. "I belong to the Minneapolis Urbansophs!"

  4. "I'm psyched to go to Denver and become urbansophed!"

  5. "Dude, I'm ubransophed about San Francisco!"

  6. "For vacation I'm going to Charlotte and will return urbansophed!"

Can I form a group of Urbansophs in a certain city?

Sure!  We'd love to see a group of people get together for monthly gatherings in any city to talk about their city or other cities they would like to visit.  We suggest, for example, using a group name as: "The Charlotte Urbansophs".

You all are crazy!  How is it that you defined TUSI as being in the waste industry?

Trust us, we really did our research and tried every which way to see ourselves in a more glamorous industry.   Our programming is so diverse, thus we found that we belonged within many different industries.  So we did what any self-respecting non-profit to be would do, we contacted the authors of the industry classification system themselves - the North American Industry Classification System or NAICS.  Dr. NAICS itself emailed us promptly and told us to classify ourselves in the Convention and Visitors Bureaus Industry (NAISC 561591) a subset of the Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services industry (NAISC 56).
