Behind-the-scenes Exchanges

It is within this area of TUSI programming that Pioneers experience things that the public rarely sees! Pioneers will be lead on Behind-the-Scenes Exchanges at various establishments and operations throughout their city and a few surrounding neighborhoods. They will experience people’s jobs through their eyes and personal stories, while getting hands on opportunities. While some tours are available to the general public, tours for TUSI Pioneers will be more in depth, informative and interactive. Should you want to participate in TUSI, read the quick list of ideas, requirements and expectations below, and then fill out a “Get Involved” form.

Some types of Behind-the-Scenes Exchanges that TUSI is looking to provide for the Pioneers:

  1. The animal care center at the San Diego Zoo or the New England Aquarium

  2. A NYC subway tour, including command central

  3. The printing facilities at the Washinton Post

  4. The Green Monster Scoreboard at Fenway Park

  5. WGBH (Radio Public Broadcasting) or a similar establishment

  6. The Control Box at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

If your corporation/organization/establishment wishes to engage TUSI Pioneers in a Behind-the-Scenes Exchange, read on for Requirements and Expectations!

Requirements

If you aren’t sure if your establishment or organization fits the bill, read below for general ideas and feel free to contact TUSI with any questions!

  1. The tour guide must be able to communicate their story passionately and enthusiastically.

  2. The tour provided by your establishment must be appropriate and applicable for 10 Pioneers between the ages of 10 and 15.

  3. The location of the Behind-the-Scenes Exchange (tour) must be within a 5 mile radius of the city's downtown center and reachable by a combination of public transportation and/or walking.

  4. The tour guide must sign a “Media Release” form that pertains to dialogues, photos and videos.

Expectations

  1. TUSI takes place during the daytime in the summer months. You must be able to provide the tour during normal business hours and at least once during the 8 weeks of Initiatives.

  2. Each Initiative has a thoroughly thought out and planned curriculum, thus you may not have your first choice of date and time and could be contacted for more than one tour.

  3. The time requirement could be anywhere from 20 to 180 minutes, depending on the tour length and activity at hand.

  4. You must commit to the agreed upon date and time and sign a “Contract of Dedication”.
